In May 2019 the Denver Post reported that Ethiopia’s Hiwot Yemer won the women’s professional Bolder Boulder 10K after her teammate Meseret Tola veered off course just before Folsom Field.
The race mixed Ethiopian, Kenyan, Tanzanian, Japanese, and American runners, and U.S. athlete Aliphine Tuliamuk finished third after leading stretches of the course.
Ethiopian distance runners have long treated Boulder’s Memorial Day 10K as a proving ground on the U.S. road circuit, so a late drama finish still reads as sports history for Horn readers who follow the diaspora athletics calendar.
Kept as athletics archive, the Denver Post file dates one memorable Ethiopian sweep attempt that ended with Yemer’s stadium win.
