In May 2019 Xinhua reported that Ethiopia’s Information Network Security Agency said it had logged 488 cyber attacks over nine months of the 2018/19 Ethiopian fiscal year.

Ethiopia’s cyber agency said it had recorded 488 attacks in nine months

INSA said about 40 percent of the attacks hit websites, that key infrastructure was the next target, and that roughly 15 percent involved hacking attempts, while claiming most strikes were stopped before serious damage.

Public cyber tallies from state agencies are hard to verify, but the release still marks how Addis Ababa talked about digital risk as banks, ministries, and media moved online.

Kept as tech and security archive, the 488-attack figure is a dated baseline for later debates about Ethiopia’s cyber capacity.
