In May 2019 The Elders met State Minister of Health Dr. Lia Tadesse and visited Feres Meda health centre in Addis Ababa to discuss universal health coverage and community health workers.
The delegation praised Ethiopia’s focus on primary care for poor and vulnerable groups, urged a larger health budget, and welcomed the Community Health Academy program with Last Mile Health, which was training frontline workers with digital tools and had already enrolled thousands online.
International elder visits often flatter hosts, so the file should be read as a dated policy checkpoint rather than proof that coverage gaps were closed.
Kept as health policy archive, the meeting marks how Abiy Ahmed’s early government marketed community health and digital training to global partners.
