In May 2019 New Business Ethiopia reported that former Irish president and UN climate envoy Mary Robinson spoke at the UN Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa about her book Climate Justice and the people least responsible for emissions who suffer first.
Robinson called climate change a man-made problem that needed feminist solutions and said grassroots women were her heroes. Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance director Mithika Mwenda answered that African governments still gave the issue less priority than capitals in the global north.
The exchange sat inside UNECA’s ClimDev-Africa work with the African Union and AfDB.
Kept as climate and Horn archive, the Robinson–Mwenda session dates Addis Ababa as a stage for climate-justice talk while drought already hit pastoral zones.
