In May 2019 FinSMEs reported that Antler, a global startup generator and early-stage venture firm, opened East African offices in Ethiopia and Kenya as part of a wider expansion.
The announcement sat inside Addis Ababa’s brief startup buzz, when reformers talked about private capital, tech parks, and diaspora founders while foreign exchange and banking rules still made ordinary fundraising hard.
Venture branding is not the same as a deep local capital market. Still, the Antler move marks a dated checkpoint for who was trying to plant early checks in the Horn before later political shocks cooled many foreign desks.
As business and tech archive, the note belongs with other 2019 investment files. It shows interest. It does not prove that Ethiopian founders later got the runway those offices promised.
