On 8 May 2019 Renewables Now reported that Ethiopia’s Public-Private Partnerships Directorate General expanded a recently launched request for qualifications for solar power, lifting the package toward about 750 megawatts.
The scale mattered because Ethiopia’s grid story was still hydropower-heavy, rainfall-anxious, and hungry for private solar that could feed industrial parks without waiting for another mega-dam ceremony.
Tenders are paper until finance, land, and transmission line up. Abiy Ahmed’s government liked renewable announcements; engineers later measured whether plants actually reached commercial operation.
Kept as energy reference, the 750 MW solar RfQ is a baseline for how the Ethiopian federal government tried to court independent power producers in the reform window.
