A UNFPA/ReliefWeb feature from Domboya District followed Tadelech Ermias, who ten years earlier refused female genital mutilation, faced family refusal to arrange her wedding, and still married with her husband’s support through an uncut girls’ club backed by KMG-Ethiopia.
She later spoke as an activist, noting she had no birth complications after choosing not to be cut. The line that stuck was her own: it had once been inconceivable for a girl to marry without being cut.
FGM is not a culture exhibit for outsiders. It is bodily harm dressed as custom, and community clubs that change marriage norms do more than donor slogans.
Kept as rights/health reference, the Domboya file shows how Ethiopian girls negotiate survival inside families, not only in Addis Ababa strategy papers.
