Dr. Senayet Agonafer, a renowned breast imaging specialist and the Regional Breast Division Chief for New York South at Lenox Hill Radiology, exemplifies excellence in her field. Dr. Agonafer’s scientific journey took root at Princeton University, where she majored in Chemical Engineering and earned certificates in Engineering Biology and Materials Science. Her academic achievement was evident through the publication of two journal papers during her undergraduate years. After a year at Cordis, leading stent development efforts, she pursued an MD at Duke University, followed by a Residency and Fellowship in Breast and Body Imaging at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY.
Since joining Lenox Hill Radiology & Medical Imaging in 2017, Dr. Agonafer has remained at the forefront of her field. She played an active role in the Enhanced Breast Cancer Detection Program (EBCD), integrating AI to improve accuracy and efficiency in breast imaging. “EBCD has elevated my capability to deliver consistent, high-performance readings across a diverse patient population, which is crucial for screening in a metropolitan area like New York City,” says Dr. Agonafer. Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Agonafer is passionate about running, a hobby that traces back to her high school days as a tennis player and a member of a Texas Cross Country championship team.
