One of the few pre-colonial Christian churches in Subsaharan Africa, according to the 1999 e.c national census, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has a membership of 43% of the Ethiopian population, the majority of whom live in Ethiopia. It is a founding member of the World Council of Churches. Despite the fact that the church kept its integrity for centuries, it is facing various challenges and obstacles. One of which is the attempt to form a separate council in the Oromia region. A committee was formed to facilitate a demonstration in Addis Ababa. The committee announces that it is negotiating with the government regarding the scheduled demonstration.
