Ethiopians, both abroad and home, celebrated the 175th birthday of Emperor Menelik II on August 18, 2019. Emperor Menelik II is one of the greatest emperors of Ethiopia renowned for his leadership in the Battle of Adwa in 1986. His benevolence and compassion garnered him the title “Emeye”, a term of endearment in Ethiopia. The birthday celebration was held in Angolala, Nothern Shoa which is the hometown of the great Emperor. The colorful celebration included a youth group paying their respects and number of ethnic Oromo horsemen have also celebrated his birthday riding their horses to the birthplace. Journalist Henok Seyoum read praise dedicated to Emperor Menelik II.
