Following the unmet demands of the Ejjeetto, youth group leading the movement to Sidama’s statehood status, the group called for a strike. The strike left Hawassa, the capital town of SNNPR, with empty streets and closed offices. However, things took a turn for the worst when the police and the Ejjeettoo youth protesting clashed. The clash left damages including the attack of journalist Aleazar Arega.
