On May 23, 2019, Acting Mayor Takele Uma called for a press conference for an official statement on land management in the city. According to the press release, the administration announced plans to demolish houses in five sub-cities which had been identified as illegal. Demolishing houses has been a very controversial issue in Ethiopia following the uproar from Legetafo Legedadi. In response to Takele Uma’s statement, Addis Ababa Baladera Council called for a press conference opposing the administration’s decision on May 29, 2019. Since then, the two parties haven’t reached a common ground.
