Emperor Menelik II introduced modern mass media in Ethiopia, and La Se-maine d’Ethiopie, 1890 was the first published weekly newspaper in French by a Franciscan missionary living in Harar. Since then, a few limited publications emerged the Press Freedom Bill in 1992 passed. Ethiopia’s journalism history has passed through being subject to official censorship and string-pulling by every regime. Renowned journalist Tadios Tanto has worked in different publications including Negere Ethiopia ( About Ethiopia) for decades. He has also authored significant books such as Dem Melash.
