Ethiopian-born British citizen Yosef Haimanot – arrested in Eritrea since 2015
Yosef Haimanot is a young British national of Ethiopian descent. He is also a passionate advocate of democracy and human rights in Ethiopia. In 2010, he went to Eritrea to assist Ethiopian opposition groups get their message to the people of Ethiopia via electronic media. In November 2012, he sent me an email informing me about the troubles he was having in Eritrea. On Nov. 19, 2012, he disappeared. I have made numerous attempt to find out what happened to him since then. The London Police refused to investigate his disappearance even though he is a British national. On September 4 this year, I was shocked, but not surprised, to hear that Fekadu Chere, an assistant to the chairman of one of the Ethiopian opposition groups in Eritrea, that Yoseph Haimanot was murdered.
