Professor Asrat Woldeyes was a prominent Ethiopian surgeon who also led one of the strongest political parties. In addition to his dedication to accomplish his duties in the medical sector, he was founder and chairman of the All Amhara People’s Organisation (AAPO). His party had a goal of restoring Ethiopia’s unity prior to Eritrean independence and the protection of Amhara interests under the ethnically-based constitution. After suffering from many health complications, he passed away at the age of 70 in 1999.
