Bekele Gerba, a former English professor at Addis Ababa University and a prominent politician in OFC, attended a panel discussion about Oromo language development and challenges. In the panel discussion, Professor Bekele provided a controversial and racist resolution by abolishing any union with non-Oromo people. His statement received a much-deserved backlash for inciting racial segregation in a deeply intertwined society like Ethiopia.
