Major Dawit Woldegiorgis, a former high ranking official during Derg, is currently head of the Namibia-based the Africa Institute for Strategic and Security Studies. He is well-known for his analytical comments in social, economic and political sectors. He returned to Ethiopia after 33 years in exile. He gave a remarkable speech at a Vision Ethiopia sponsored event in Addis Ababa’s Nexus Hotel saying that the country is passing through a period of acute national misgiving and lasting solutions to the ongoing conflict and insecurity will not be possible while keeping the constitutional arrangements. In an interview with BBC Amharic, Major Dawit weighed on Ethiopia’s current social, economic and political progress in comparison with previous regimes.
