April Fools’ Day is an annual celebration commemorated on April 1st by playing practical jokes and spreading hoaxes. The jokes and their victims are called April fools. People playing April Fool jokes often expose their prank by shouting “April fool(s)” at the unfortunate victim(s). This day is, however, a recent phenomenon in Ethiopia. Ethiopians have a mixed opinion of the day since it differs so much from the custom. They shared with us their stories and opinions with April Fool’s Day.
