Weibo users mock Chinese student who died in Ethiopian Airlines plane crash


China’s largest social media site has taken down a number of accounts due to insensitive comments about a student who died in the Ethiopian Airlines crash.

Weibo, a Chinese micro-blogging site like Twitter decided to shut down the sites after reports of hateful comments.

“We received reports from users that there were contents under the Weibo of an aeroplane crash victim that attacked her,” Weibo officials said. “We have checked and closed down [several accounts] that attacked personality and viciously. Please respect the deceased and discuss rationally.”

The insensitive comments targeted a 22-year-old college student who was heading to Kenya to see wild animals. She was attacked for being from a rich family and having money to spend on foreign trips. […] CONTINUE READING
