Philadelphia police shot an Ethiopian man on Wednesday near the corner of 49th Street and Hazel Avenue. The shooting of the man, who was allegedly involved in a stabbing incident, has sparked an uproar from the Ethiopian and Eritrean community in the state.
According to Capt. Sekou Kinebrew, the Ethiopian man was carrying a knife and refused to drop it although officers urged him to do so repeatedly. The victim was shot multiple times after he refused to heed the warning.
Officials say although they received a report that the victim stabbed another person, they are yet to find the stabbing victim.
“We searched the scene and the home in search of stabbing victim. At this point, we have not found anyone that was stabbed,” Kinebrew said. [….] CONTINUE READING
