Turmeric facial mask for healthier skin

Melat Mulugeta

Turmeric is a powerful and popular herb made from the dried root of the Curcuma longa plant. It is mainly used in cooking for its distinctive flavor. The yellow powder herb is also used as a coloring agent. Many studies have shown that Turmeric powder has many health benefits. The benefits of turmeric are largely due to its phytochemistry. The compounds in turmeric, called curcuminoids are used in many cosmetic products for their antioxidant property.

Turmeric powder is usually mixed with Milk for a homemade facial mask. Milk is rich in B-vitamins, alpha hydroxy acids, calcium, and other powerful antioxidants. Milk is a great natural facial cleanser as it cleans out clogged pores, preventing blackheads, acne and more. The high lactic acid content not only has skin-lightening properties but will also help get rid of dead cells on the skin’s surface. Beta hydroxy is lactic acid found in milk which helps to remove excess dead cells off the skin’s surface, revealing soft skin underneath. When you apply Milk on your skin, it creates a thin protein film that protects skin and cools off burning sensations.
