About 541 Ethiopian migrants stranded in Tanzania to be transported back home

(AFP) – Ethiopian authorities are working to bring back over 500 citizens who are stranded in Tanzania.

Ethiopia is working with Tanzania to provide travel documents for the 541 migrants. The migrants were reportedly heading to South African before they got stuck in Tanzania.

“We’re finalising preparations to return our 541 nationals from Tanzania, who have already received travel documents necessary to return to Ethiopia in the coming few days,” Nebiat Getachew, spokesman for Ethiopia’s foreign ministry, said.

Last week, Tanzanian authorities agreed to release about 1,900 Ethiopian prisoners. However, it is unclear why the prisoners were incarcerated in the first place.
