Ras Mekonnen Woldemichael was the governor of Harar province in Ethiopia during the reign of Emperor Menelik II. He was also the father of Teferi Mekonnen who was later coronated as Emperor Haile Selassie. There are two statues in Harar city commemorating the late governor. In an unfortunate accident on Tuesday night, a car crashed and knocked over one of the statues. The event coincided with the unveiled statue of his son’s, Emperor Haile Selassie, two days earlier.
