The former Prime Minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam Desalegn has been assigned to lead an African Union (AU) election mission to Nigeria. The AU mission is tasked with observing Nigeria’s upcoming presidential elections.
“Nigeria is a very important country for the whole of Africa, in terms of population and economy. We don’t need any conflict resulting from the election. All partners including the AU will work together to ensure free, fair and democratic elections are held in Nigeria,” AU Commissioner for Political Affairs Minata Samate Cessouma said during a press conference in Addis Ababa over the weekend.
Nigeria’s next presidential election is set to be held on February 16. About 84 million Nigerians are expected to participate in the polls.[…] CONTINUE READING
