Bereket Simon, born in Gondar from his Eritrean parents, is a prominent political figurehead in Ethiopian politics. He was one of the early supporters of Meles Zenawi. After the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi held power, Bereket was his right-hand man. He is known for his strong political views and viewed as one of the most excellent political orators. He was also one of the writers for Addis Raey Magazine under a pen name. His political ideology, a direct resonance of Meles Zenawi’s view, was widely seen during the 2005 Ethiopian national election. His power in Ethiopian politics and influence was seen in his actions and speeches following the aftermath of the 2005 election.
