Khat, commonly known as Chat by Ethiopians, is a perishable stimulant. Ethiopia is one of the exporters of Khat commodity along with Yemen. Reports show more than five hundred thousand farmers grow Khat in the Horn of Africa. Khat is the most popular choice of drug among the youth and the number of users only grows in time. The recent campaign against Khat became controversial when one party argues for saving the youth while the other argues how it would affect the lives of the farmers.
