Addis Ababa Science and Technology University surrounded by police

Addis Ababa University, the oldest school of higher education in Ethiopia has been a center for student protests various times. From the protest against the imperial rule to the DERG and EPRDF regime students have demanded their rights. The university has thirteen campuses, one of which being Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. For the past few weeks, students at the campus have been protesting demanding the president of the university to be removed and their rights to be respected. The protest has been escalating even though the university officials tried to negotiate with the students in a meeting held last week. According to an eyewitness the Addis Ababa Police force has surrounded the campus since this morning. The witness also added that the police have not taken any action yet.
