Parliament appointed women’s rights lawyer Meaza Ashenafi as President of Ethiopia’s Supreme Court


Meaza Ashenafi, a prominent women’s rights lawyer who is the founder and executive director of the Ethiopian Women Lawyer’s Association (EWLA), has been appointed by the Ethiopian Parliament as President of the Federal Supreme Court today.

On top of her activism, in 2011, Meaza was instrumental in the founding of Enat Bank, which was created to make capital easily accessible to women. She has served as chairperson of the bank’s board until recently.
