Former foreign affairs minister Col. Goshu Wolde returned to Ethiopia after long exile

The former minister of education and foreign affairs in Ethiopia under the Derg regime, Col. Goshu Wolde, has returned to Ethiopia today after spending 32 years in exile.

State Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wzr. Hirut Zemene, head of American affairs at the Ministry, Ato Nebyat Getachew, and other high-level government officials have welcomed Col. Goshu at the Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.

Col. Goshu defected to the U.S. in 1986 and in 1992 he founded the Ethiopian Medhin Democratic Party (Medhin), which was later merged with Ethiopian Democratic Party and participated in the 2005 Ethiopian parliamentary election.

Since then, Col. Goshu has been out of public eye until earlier this year when he wrote a widely publicized article supporting the change that is currently taking place in Ethiopia under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
