Ethiopia’s ruling party, Oromo People Democratic Organization, is currently holding its 9th conference, which is being attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and thousands of delegates. The following is an update from Jimma where the conference is being held.

The Jimma conference is expected to make some radical changes to the organization’s structure and bring in new leaders to key positions.
OPDO is a member of the ruling 4-party coalition named Ethiopian People Democratic Front (EPRDF). OPDO took the leadership of the coalition last April by electing Dr Abiy Ahmed, Chairman of OPDO, as its head.
