Prominent Ethiopian journalist Eskinder Nega, who was released a few weeks ago after several years of imprisonment, has been detained at Bole International Aiport in Addis Ababa this morning and his passport has been confiscated, according to his colleagues.

Eskinder was heading to the Netherlands where he was invited as a guest of honor at Amnesty International’s 50th Anniversary event.

Eskinder’s arrest confirms the fear that is being expressed by many Ethiopians that the new prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, who promised to reform the political system is not fully in charge of the government. The country is still being run by a gang of thugs known as Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). As long as TPLF is in charge of Ethiopia’s security forces, there can be no meaningful change in the country.

Today’s incident involving Eskinder Nega at Bole Airport is an ugly reminder that the evil force that has been tormenting the people of Ethiopia for the past several decades has no intention to go way any time soon.

In case any one has forgotten what TPLF is, watch the video below that was recorded earlier this week in the Oromia region of Ethiopia as TPLF’s special forces brutalize young Ethiopians:
