5 Ethiopian migrants arrested in Mozambique

Five Ethiopian nationals have been arrested in Mozambique for illegally entering the country and settling in central Manica province, an official said on Saturday.Spokesperson for Manica Provincial Migration Service, Jorge Machava told APA that the Ethiopians were arrested inside an abandoned house in the provincial capital Manica while they were waiting for a car to take them to Maputo. It is believed they were on their way to South Africa.

Machava said investigations have revealed that the illegal migrants entered Mozambique through the northern Cabo Delgado province.

“We know that they entered from Cabo Delgado and continued their journey to Manica where they stayed some days in an abandoned house,” the official said by telephone.

He noted that the police received a tip of.

He added: “What we can say for now is that they will be repatriated to the country of origin. They are going via Maputo, but we are still working to see if we can get more information which we think is important for us.”
