The Ethiopian federal capital, Addis Ababa located in the heart of the Oromia region has been in controversy for the past few years. The Oromo Ethnic group, the largest in the country, have been demanding for a special interest law regarding the city, which they call 'Finfinee'. They recount a long history of atrocity which violently displaced them from their land i.e Finfinee and alienated from their culture. The Oromo community has been demonstrating for the past few years, which led to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's appointment. But the controversy regarding Addis Ababa is still not resolved. Engineer Yilkal Getnet, former chairman of Semayawi Party, had an interview with a local magazine. In response to claims over Addis Ababa by calling the city Finfine, Engineer Yilkal said, “There has never been a country named Oromia and a city named Finfine in history.”. Mereja TV reached out to Engineer Yilkal for further explanation on the quote.
