2 children stuck in Kenya after fleeing violence in Ethiopia

Two children, who have Canadian citizenship, are stuck in Kenya’s capital Nairobi after fleeing violence in Ethiopia. The sisters, aged 14 and 9 who have Ethiopian ancestry, have been stuck in Kenya for some time despite attempts by their father to bring them to Canada.

One of the girls reportedly lost her passport and they remain in Kenya awaiting a replacement. The situation is complex because the girls have never lived in Canada although they have Canadian citizenship.

The father of the children, who moved to Canada in 1988, is worried about their safety. He said Canadian authorities are hesitant to replace the passport because of an issue with a photo.
