Ethiopia approve law granting refugees right to school and work

Refugees in Ethiopia have been granted the right to receive education and to work. On Thursday, the country’s parliament approved legislation that gives over 800,000 refugees living in the East African new rights.

The law gives all refugees living in Ethiopia the right to pursue available educational opportunities. Refugees have also been granted the right to travel and work across the country. However, the new legislation does not grant refugees the right to work in the Ethiopian government as well as in the intelligence and defense sectors.

The new law is part of Ethiopia’s plan for implementing the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF), which was launched in 2017 by the United Nations Refugee Agency. [….] CONTINUE READING
