The 433rd School, built by Menschen für Menschen – Karlheinz Böhm’s Ethiopia Aid, was recently opened in Kelecha Jibat in the Ethiopian Dano region. The school was financed by Sportler gegen Hunger, an action of the Oldenburgische Volkszeitung and the Kreissportbundes Vechta. In the future, the new school will accommodate more than 1,300 pupils aged 6 to 14 years.

Athletes Against Hunger (SgH) has been committed to aid and development projects in Africa for three and a half decade so far more than four million euros have been recorded. At the inauguration of the school were also representatives of the action from the Vechta County in Kelecha Jibat here. They were greeted enthusiastically by thousands of people. SgH representative Volker Kläne reported on the celebrations as a reporter. “It was a very emotional moment, it’s unbelievable how many people came to the inauguration, and there was a lot of excitement about the new school buildings,” he said. “It’s nice to see that the children now have much better conditions for learning – and for many, many years.”
It was the first school whose construction completely financed the athletes against hunger. Therefore, the inauguration of Higher Primary School for SgH had historic proportions. For the students, parents and teachers, it has long been the happiest day in Kelecha Jibat.
