Driving through Jimma town, southern Ethiopia

Jimma, named after the kingdom of Jimma, is the largest city in Southwestern Ethiopia and still known for being the home of one of the largest market for thousands of traders. Founded by Moti Aba Jiffar (ruled from 1878 to 1932), is believed to be the origin of coffee. After the establishment of the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in late 1967, the city has seen a rise in coffee trade both locally and internationally. The tropical climate of Jimma with a long annual wet season from March to October and the daily mean staying between 20 °C and 25 °C year-round has a comfortable range of temperature for a drive.
