Ethiopia's Federal Police harasses and arrests peaceful youth demonstrators - Sintayehu Chekol

Journalist and human rights activist Eskinder Nega called for a discussion about Addis Ababa on March 11, 2019. The meeting became a necessity after ownership claims rose that completely disregarded the residents. It is known that the Ethiopian federal capital located in the heart of the Oromia region has been in controversy for the past few years. The Oromo Ethnic group, the largest in the country, have been demanding for a special interest law regarding the city, which they call Finfinee. During the meeting, Eskinder and other panelists raised agendas concerning the future of Ethiopia capital. The meeting concluded peacefully, but situations took a turn for the worst when police forces arrested youths who have attended the meeting. The arrest looked similar to the mass detention in September 2018. No official reason has been provided for the arrest, nor any governmental agency has taken responsibility. Sintayehu Chekol comments on the situation as follows.
