United Nations Security Council voted to lift its sanctions against Eritrea. The UNSC came to this conclusion after the two neighbor countries Ethio-Eritrea leaders Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed signed a landmark peace deal on July after 20 years of a cold war. The UNSC declared sanction on Eritrea for support to the Somalia-based Islamist terrorist group Al-Shabab, along with a separate border dispute with Djibouti. Even though the Eritrean government has denied the allegations the sanctions were not lifted. The targeted sanctions since December 23/ 2009 were placed travel restrictions on senior government and military officials, blocked arms sales to and from Eritrea, and froze the assets of Eritreans found to support armed opposition groups, violate the comprehensive arms embargo.
