Growing controversy over government's inability to arrest former Ethiopian spy chief Getachew Assefa

In a press briefing that was given by the Ethiopian Federal Attorney General earlier this week, General Attorney Berhanu Tsegaye gave a statement about Tigray region's unwillingness to give up Ato Getachew Assefa, former Director of National Intelligence and Security Services. It was also announced that an arrest warrant is issued against him. The arrest of Ato Getachew has been a controversial topic in the country from every possible angle. Ato Getachew has been accused of numerous serious crimes such as human rights violations and killings. Before being removed from his position months after the appointment of Abiy Ahmed as prime minister, he was head of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) for many years.
