Ethiopia's state-owned telecommunications monopoly Ethio Telecom has decided to resell 18 million unused SIM cards. Sales channel manager of Ethio Telecom Ato Muluken Gizaw told FBC that 18 million sim cards sold by the telecom have not been in use for a long time. He also added that if a sim card's balance is not recharged for 330 days it will no longer be in service, which is the case with the 18 million sim cards. These unused sim cards will be resold to the society in the near future. It is to be recalled that the only telecommunications solutions provider operating in Ethiopia has been included in the government's decision to fully or partially privatize major state-owned enterprises and the long-serving CEO of the Telecom, Andualem Admassie, has been replaced with Frehiwot Tamiru.
