The Simien Mountains National Park stretched on 220 square meters, is one of tourists popular destination in Ethiopia. UNESCO registered the park as World Heritage Site as it is the home of endemic animals such as the Gelada Baboon, the Simien Fox, and the Walia Ibex. The mountains are also referred to as the Roof of Africa since they form the largest continuous area of elevation on the continent.
Unfortunately, the park has been burning again for days similar to the one that happened in March this year. The earlier fire was contained by local crews and volunteers. However, for the recent fire, Amhara Regional President Ambachew Mekonnen had to ask for help since the rugged terrain has made it hard to put the fire out. Mereja TV contacted the zone’s administration for a report on the current status of the park.
