Konso, a town on the Sagan River in Southwestern Ethiopia, is the administrative center of the Konso special woreda of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region. The town has been making political headlines since 2016 following the community’s demand for self-administration and the turmoil and conflicts that followed the demand. In light of the reform, many communities in Ethiopia are applying to exercise their right to self-administration. This has been causing some unrest due to resistance from some parties. The downfall of such movements is the collateral damages that occur. The attack on journalist Dawit Wassihun from Akiya Media is one example.
