The heartbreaking life of patient battling Cushing Syndrome

Cushing Syndrome is a rare hormonal disorder caused when the body produces excess Cortisol hormone. In normal quantities, Cortisol helps to regulate blood pressure and the way the body metabolizes proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Features of Cushing Syndrome include a round face, acne, reddish skin, central obesity, and poor muscle tone. Cushing syndrome can also result in high blood pressure, bone loss, type 2 diabetes, kidney failure, and heart complications.

Cushing Syndrome is a very rare disease affecting 1 in 200,000 people. The treatments are quite expensive and time-consuming. When doctors diagnosed 25-year-old with Cushing Syndrome two years ago, she only had her little sister and no family to support her. She is now bedridden as a result of the complications of Cushing Syndrome. Mereja TV visited her home to hear her heartbreaking story.
