Ethiopian customs authority to create its own police force

The recently growing role of contrabandists is continuing to hamper the progress of revenue collection of the country. According to information obtained from the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA), coffee, livestock, cereals of various types, animal skins, fuel, and others goods are smuggled out of the country while incoming contraband include clothes, different currency notes, weapons, food items, medicines, and spare parts of different automobiles. Ethiopia loses millions annually due to the rapid increase in contraband goods. The Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA) has been taking different prevention measures. This week Minister of Revenues Adanech Abebe said that the ERCA will be forming its own police force and its main purpose will be controlling contraband trade across the country.
