PM Abiy Ahmed inaugurates a $2-billion construction project in Addis Ababa

Eagle Hills, a private Abu Dhabi-based real estate development company, has entered the Ethiopian market with plans for a mixed-use project in the capital city Addis Ababa. The project, named La Gare, is named after the city’s former main railway station that took passengers from Addis Ababa to Djibouti. Set to cover 360,000 square meters in the city center, the development is the first foray into Ethiopia for Eagle Hills, established in 2014. It is located close to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and will feature a social housing component funded by Eagle Hills and the Ethiopian government to house residents currently living on the project site. The construction of the La Gare integrated community development project was held on Monday in the presence of senior government officials including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen, and deputy mayor of Addis Ababa city, Takele Uma.
