Following Prime Minister Abiy's appointment and his reform agenda, there has been an ongoing arrest of senior military figures, high-level intelligence personnel and their associates over alleged large-scale corruption cases and years of human rights abuse against dissidents and rebels. Suspects who were arrested during the crackdown led by the Attorney General have been appearing in court as the police continue with the investigation. Ato Esayas Dagnew, Brother of Major General Kinfe Dagnew who was the former director of METEC was arrested along with his brother on corruption charges related to the corporation. It is to remember that METEC had been accused of embezzling billions from the country. Ato Esayas worked in Ethio Telecom as Chief Operation Officer and was put on trial for working with METEC to embezzle public money. For months investigators claimed that they need more time to compile documents and witness testimonies to press charges against him but after the prosecution failed to present evidence, the court set bail.
