Business owners in Hawassa city held a protest in front of the regional Administration Office opposing the city's decision to seal their shops. According to the owners, the office has no legal justification as they are up to date with their lease and license. The owners were previously working as street parlors and moved to the shops after paying the amount needed. One owner who talked with Mereja TV said that they were told to have a license prior to getting the shops and they did accordingly. But the administration office suddenly announced that they have to vacate the shops because they have overstayed in the place for more than five years. Mereja TV tried to contact the city’s head of legal affairs Ato Serkalem to hear their side on the matter but was not successful.
