Bereket's arrest: Political revenge or delayed justice?

Following Prime Minister Abiy's appointment and his reform agenda, there has been an ongoing arrest of senior military figures, high-level intelligence personnel and their associates over alleged large-scale corruption cases and years of human rights abuse against dissidents and rebels. This week it was reported that Ato Bereket Simon, a politician who is a former communication minister and Ato Tadesse Kassa, member of the Amhara Democratic Party were arrested suspected of corruption. Their arrest is the most scandalous news to surf social and mass media this week. Ato Bereket is reported to be arrested on corruption charges related to TIRET Corporate. TIRET Corporate, established in 1985 is an endowment organization registered in Amhara National Regional State. His arrest has been the talk of the town and many analyzed the event from political and judicial aspects. Mereja TV interviewed Fetsum Berhane (an economist researcher, political activist, and blogger for the Horn of Africa residing in Ethiopia) and Getachew Shiferaw, political activist and former Editor-in-chief of Negere-Ethiopia, for their take on the arrests.
