The Gidabo Irrigation Dam Project, located between the Oromia and SNNP Regional States and built at a cost of birr 1.26 billion, has been officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy Dr.Sileshi Bekele, Presidents of Oromia, Lemma Megerssa and Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples' (SNNP), Million Mathewos including other federal and regional senior officials were in attendance at the inauguration of the dam. It was stated that he dam project, which was started in 2010 with an initial outlay of 258 million of birr on Giddabo River, took eight years to be finalized as the completion date was extended due to design changes. TheMnistry of Water, Irrigation, and Energy announced that the dam will benefit over 10,000 farmers and expected to create job opportunity for over 192,000 youth. During the inaugural ceremony, Premier Abiy said the dam project will have a positive impact the social and economic relations between the people of Oromia and SNNP.
